From ripped jeans, to patchwork jackets completed with gold accents, to old-fashioned denim looks in shirts, accessories and dresses that remind us of haute couture craftsmanship, denim style has been used this season for creativity.
Denim is a material that presents artistic minds with a white “canvas” thanks to its softness, strength and versatility, and allows creative talents to experiment. Denim is always present on various catwalks; And if you’re used to wearing it as pants or a jacket, rethink this timeless fabric after designers expanded our vision and ideas with full-length looks, suits, and maxi dresses.
From the mini dresses with shimmery details and fur sleeves from Death By Dolls, to the striped corset from the Emergency Room, to the military-style maxi jumpsuit from Acne, denim is reinterpreted in every way.
Here’s a look at some looks we spotted on the Fall and Winter 2022 show to see the genuine possibilities of jeans style.
#1 Marques’Almeida
Against the backdrop of Portugal’s beach on the Atlantic Ocean, Marques Almeida presented a catwalk for the Autumn and Winter 2022 season in a rich color palette of black, violet, pink, and orange. The collection featured bold black stripes, floor-length clothing, voluminous cuts, patchwork prints, and flowy fabrics.
#2 Death by Dolls
With her ‘80s-inspired collection, designer Sarah Al Saud brings fun, diverse and inspirational looks to the stage that unleashes the revolutionary in each one of us. She placed great emphasis on vertical silver details and denim material.
#3 Emergency Room
Beirut-based slow fashion label Emergency Room focuses on reusing materials thanks to zero-waste production that allows for the creation of unique clothing with an ever-changing mix of existing materials and fabrics. The fall-winter 2022 collection chose blue as its primary color, and denim as its primary material.
#4 Nimph
This Barcelona project, built around upcycling and blurring gender lines, is spearheaded by Patti Mania. Nymph aims to celebrate imperfection, and the beauty of all that is different, starting with a fantasy world inhabited by fantastical creatures. The result is a futuristic, eco-friendly and circular design, where diverse processes and different stories intertwine to create unique pieces of limited quantity.
#5 Yohji Yamamoto
Denim is having a star moment, and designer Yuji Yamamoto knows it all too well. With an approach that is feminine, honest, his Fall/Winter 2022 collection features blue denim and black silk in long coats, ruffled cuffs on black denim jackets, long skirts, sneakers, and eye-catching hair accessories.
#6 Acne Studios
Creative director Yoni Johansson took his famous mastery of patchwork to Paris Fashion Week. About his experimental innovations, characterized by raw, unfinished seams and apparent padding, Johansson said: “It’s not disruptive or messy, it’s putting things back together, and it’s about the beauty of repair and restoration. We experiment with materials that are at the heart of Acne Studios. “Like denim, leather, jersey, and knitwear, we also upgrade with materials we live with every day.”
