The annual 3 Days of Design festival in Copenhagen, which honours the best Danish designers, celebrated its tenth anniversary this month. The event, held from June 7-9, featured numerous exhibitions by renowned brands like Carl Hansen & Søn, Louis Poulsen, Fritz Hansen, as well as emerging names like Ferm Living, Frama, and Reform. Here are some of ShinyEve's favorite discoveries.
#1: FORA PROJECTS
Fora Projects, a sustainability-focused company known for its low-impact hardwood pieces manufactured in a coastal Croatian boat factory, collaborated with Bahraini Danish on a versatile sculptural stool. The stool, soon to be available with upholstery, was showcased in a charming wood-paneled space reminiscent of a summer home.
#2: GARDE HVALSØE
The Garde Hvalsøe showroom, located in a private courtyard in central Copenhagen, underwent a recent reconfiguration by Bunn Studio based on an original design by David Thulstrup. The space drew inspiration from the brand's headquarters in Aarhus, also designed by Bunn Studio, incorporating custom elements for maximum flexibility. Notably, it featured a special 3 Days of Design installation by designer and artist Sara Martinsen, exploring the themes of strength and fragility in nature.
#3: LOUIS POULSEN
Copenhagen is known for its iconic designs, and Louis Poulsen decided to give some of its renowned silhouettes a modern twist. Collaborating with Home in Heven, the brand that gained attention last year with its glass Coperni bag worn by celebrities like Doja Cat and Kylie Jenner, Louis Poulsen added cheeky and artful touches to their classic pieces. For example, the PH 2/1 table lamp sported devil horns, while the VL45 pendant received a playful confectionary remix with white tentacles adorned with blue suction cups.
Other adaptations of the Poul Henningsen and Vilhelm Lauritzen designs were more subtle, like Heven's milky-white glass version of the PH5. The original and reworked pieces were exhibited side by side, creating a fascinating visual parallel.
#4: REFORM
Kitchen brand Reform, known for its innovative approach, unveiled the Atelier Collection during the festival. This collection features high-design handles that complement their new Plain and Shaker kitchens. Artisans from around the world crafted these handles using four elemental materials: metal, glass, wood, and ceramic.
#5: FERM LIVING
Sustainability was a key theme at 3 Days of Design, and Ferm Living embraced it in their latest offering. Designed by Norwegian artist Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng, the Dal Piece is a sculptural creation made from recycled aluminum. Its wavy lines draw inspiration from the Gudbrandsdalen mountainside, evoking the slow erosion of solid rock in a cave. This nature-friendly product was showcased alongside Ferm's wide range of offerings, including children's toys, bath accessories, sofas, and outdoor furniture, in their Copenhagen showroom.
