Canada to ban cosmetic testing on animals

Bill C47, an amendment to the Food and Drug Act, was passed on June 23rd by the Canadian government. Starting from December, it will be illegal to test cosmetic products on animals in the country. This development comes as a result of the tireless advocacy by cruelty-free cosmetics brands and collaborations with organizations like Humane Society International and the Animal Alliance of Canada.
Lush Cosmetics, for example, has been actively supporting this cause since 2013. The passing of this bill is a historic milestone as Canada joins the growing list of countries that have banned cruel and outdated animal testing. The legislation prohibits testing ingredients and finished products on animals, as well as the sale of animal-tested cosmetics within Canada. This ban also impacts foreign companies who want to sell their products in Canada, as they must ensure their products were not tested on animals.
