From trendy yellow swimsuits to tiny orange two-pieces, it's undeniable that Gabrielle Union knows how to rock a bikini. And she made it clear that she won't let anyone dictate what she can or cannot wear. In a recent appearance on the Who What Wear with Hillary Kerr podcast, the 50-year-old actress opened up about aging in Hollywood and the judgments she faces from trolls.
Addressing a comment she received about being “old enough to be somebody's grandma,” Union confidently responded, “Why shouldn't I wear swimsuits? And let's be clear, they're not just swimsuits, they're thongs. I'll proudly show off these cheeks until my ass literally falls off, and maybe I'll even wear a bikini in my casket.”
In a lighthearted manner, Union humorously mentioned that her thong-wearing plans might be dedicated to that specific commenter, stating, “This is for you, bitch… It'll be me in a thong, ass-up in the casket.”
However, Union also delved into the broader issue of how Hollywood perpetuates ageism, making women feel “invisible” as they get older. She shared her own experiences, expressing the frustration of being treated differently and losing a sense of visibility as she aged.
“At 35, they start treating you like you have osteoporosis. You start feeling like you're fading away, disappearing right in front of your own eyes,” Gabrielle revealed. “We internalize society's belief that we are losing value.”
She emphasized the importance of women boldly claiming their space and embracing their beauty, regardless of societal expectations. Union encouraged women to love themselves and not wait for validation from others, whether that means falling in love with a younger partner or simply embracing their own worth.
In her empowering message, Union urged women to take control of their narratives and celebrate their individuality, proving that age is just a number and self-love knows no boundaries.
