No need to fret, but Olivia Rodrigo might have just gifted us with the ultimate pop album of 2023. Shortly after the release of her second masterpiece, “GUTS,” which instantly became the anthem for twenty-something teenage girls, the talented singer graced the early morning hours with a performance on Today. And she did it all while donning the most adorable autumn-ready ensemble.
For her performance, Rodrigo rocked an utterly charming charcoal two-piece outfit. This set consisted of a short-sleeve button-up blazer paired with a matching micro-mini tennis skirt. While delivering songs from both “GUTS” and her debut album, “SOUR,” the songstress completed her look with the same silver “GUTS” letter rings featured on the new record's cover. To add the finishing touch, she opted for a coordinating fall-appropriate magenta lip and let her waist-length brunette hair cascade down in gentle waves with a center part.
After captivating the Plaza with performances of “vampire,” “get him back,” “drivers license,” and “good 4 U,” Rodrigo sat down with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb to discuss the poetry class that greatly enhanced her songwriting skills.
“I took a college class last year because I was homeschooled my whole life, so I really wanted to have that kind of experience. And it definitely aided my songwriting a lot,” she revealed. “I feel really lucky that I could have done that. I love learning, and I love writing. It's my favorite thing.”
Just days earlier, the multi-talented artist also delved into the pressures she faced in following up her Grammy-winning debut while crafting “GUTS” during an appearance on New Music Daily with Zane Lowe.
“The first time around, I was just filled with so much adrenaline—I was like, ‘OK, wow, this is happening. I've never done this before,'” she reminisced. “This time it feels a little more real, and it's a scary thing to know that people are going to be curious, and they'll maybe have a lot of ears on it.”
She added, “Writing the first album, it just felt so spontaneous. I was 17 years old, just pouring my heart out. This time, I was in a different place, and I was facing a lot of pressure and high expectations. I really had to try to block out the noise and solely focus on the art of songwriting.”
