Selena's take on the beloved Hollywood trend of naked dressing came courtesy of Oscar de la Renta. The dress featured an asymmetrical hemline, adorned with cascades of floral strings reminiscent of carwash brushes. The delicate halter neckline also incorporated strips of flowers and blossoms, mirroring the design of her dress. To complement the ensemble, she opted for a high slit that showcased a pair of stylish strappy red heels. This year, Gomez received a nomination in the Song of the Year category for her duet with Rema titled “Calm Down.” The track is also up for Best Collaboration and Best Afrobeats. Selena's appearance at the VMAs marks her return to the event after a hiatus since 2015.
Speaking about “Calm Down,” Rema shared with Pitchfork in February, “‘Calm Down' is about the events that led me to finding love at the time. It started at a party where I saw a girl who stood out from other girls, so I felt like taking a chance. We had a conversation and danced together… However, her friends prevented me from getting any closer, which dampened the mood. But later, when they weren't around, we stayed in touch and hit it off.”
