Comfortable and practical fashion, but most importantly, it must be trendy! For travel outfits, there are many specifications. Among the fashion essentials this season, and the essentials of a travel bag, we find some classics: trench coats, maxi denim jackets, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and comfortable shoes like sleek sneakers. And of course, accessories make a difference, and their adoption does not mean compromising on comfort.
Several features were repeated in travel outfits this season, such as oversized cuts, including oversized trousers and blazers, as seen on the runways of Jil Sander, Valentino, and Michael Kors. The layering trend also emerged, including the mixing of garments that are usually worn separately, such as shirts and tops or coordinated dresses with shirts. Finally, belts appeared among the most popular accessories, and they are perfect when paired with jeans and flexible dresses.
Many fashion houses have introduced designs suitable for the travel season, including Burberry, which proposed high-waisted pants that are extremely comfortable, tied waist sweaters, and lightweight sweaters made of soft fabrics. Chanel, on the other hand, preferred to use elegant styles in travel clothing and created long cotton dresses with waist belts and folk-inspired prints. Max Mara followed the same line, with elegant sporty suits.
Below are some travel outfits from the Spring/Summer 2023 runway shows:
#1: Burberry
The collection designed by Riccardo Tisci for Spring/Summer 2023 is inspired by the sense of freedom and openness that the summer season offers. Travel is not only the main theme of the collection but also the place where different styles and worlds meet. The source of inspiration is reflected in redesigned dresses in a British style, layered looks, denim clothing, and deconstructed trench coats. Colors and fabrics celebrate a mix of different elements, ranging from solid black to bright colors. As for accessories, they evoke beach vacation designs: flip-flop sandals, fish-shaped earings, and crystal-studded sunglasses reminiscent of swim goggles.
#2: Etro
Creative Director Marco De Vincenzo presented his first show for Etro in the Spring/Summer 2023 season. He aimed to embody a journey between reality and imagination in search of a new lightness. He returned to the brand's roots to simplify its symbols and added his contemporary touch to this historical heritage: tropical flowers, birds, and fruits coming together with traditional Etro patterns, such as the famous multicolored cashmere and brocade embroidery on fabrics. The result is a magnificent ornamental mix and a journey where imagination attaches itself to the past to look at the present.
#3: Emilia Wickstead
Emilia Wickstead is one of the fashion houses beloved by the British royal family, known for its formal and contemporary innovations that make it a real pleasure to coordinate an outfit for a special occasion or important event. For the Spring/Summer 2023 season, she designed dresses distinguished by their formal and refined style in terms of shapes and cuts, breathing new life with imaginative prints and bright colors. The collection's looks are comfortable and versatile, making them perfect for frequent travelers. Finally, the looks were complemented by large handbags to enhance the element of comfort.
#4: CHANEL
In Chanel's Spring/Summer 2023 presentation, the French fashion house brought forth a classic elegance with bold and modern touches. Virginie Viard envisioned cuts that embody freedom of movement, striking the right balance between modernity and lightness. Among pearls, sequins, knots, and feathers, all symbols of femininity were present, merging with luxurious fabrics such as chiffon silk and tweed with a broken check pattern. As for colors, they ranged from black and white, encompassing various shades of polka dots, from canary yellow to soft pastel green, and from light pink to bold gold. Virginie designed ethereal evening looks with flowing dresses made of golden metallic fabrics, short dresses adorned with dyed feathers, and embroidered designs in black and white.
#5: Paul & Joe
We can describe the style of the Parisian house Paul & Joe as luxurious and timeless. You can find the distinctive elements of the brand in the designs of their new summer collection, which includes checked jumpsuits, tweed suits, and pleated skirts. Travel accessories stood out in most of the outfits, including Panama hats, hair ties, sunglasses, and low-heeled Mary Jane shoes. In terms of color palette, it plays with delicate gradients, ranging from canary yellow to navy blue, lilac to pearl gray. Alongside color-blocked outfits, the brand introduced the checked print beloved by creative director Sophie Mechaly, as well as romantic symbols like hearts and flowers.
#6: Tod's
Under the creative direction of Walter Chiapponi, the Spring/Summer 2023 collection was designed with meticulous attention to comfort and balanced elegance, two qualities cherished by travel enthusiasts. Neutral and earthy colors dominated, from beige to light brown, and the fabrics were characterized by a luxurious softness. Among the standout designs in the show were long dresses with collars and button closures, oversized trench coats, and large handbags. The wardrobe included essential pieces, with cuts and dimensions designed to suit the needs of the present era. Finally, it is worth noting the focus on handcrafted artisanal details, reaffirming the essence of the proud Italian workmanship of the brand.
#7: Max Mara
In the Spring/Summer 2023 season, Max Mara revisited its iconic fashion and presented it in simpler versions with less structured cuts and more vibrant colors. The designs stood out for their simplicity and minimalism, with the absence of ruffles, prints, and lace, yet they remained interesting from various perspectives. Firstly, the color palette was dominated by canary yellow, sugary blue, and mint green, enhancing the beauty of the garments and giving them an informal appeal. In short, elegant minimalism took over Max Mara's runway to suit all occasions, from daytime office looks to eveningwear.
